Eligibility For A Flu Vaccine

Flu Vaccinations – 2019

The following flu vaccination clinics are currently available to be booked by patients aged 65 and over and patients aged over 9 years of age but less than 65 years who are in an ‘at risk’ category.

Thursday 26 September 7.25am to 7.50am Surgery
Thursday 26 September 5.00pm to 5.50pm Surgery
Monday 30 September 9.00am to 12.00noon Church Hall opposite the Surgery

More clinics (including a Saturday clinic) will be added in due course in line with our vaccine delivery schedule

ELIGIBILITY FOR A FLU VACCINE

The following cohorts of patients are eligible for a flu vaccination:

The eligible groups are:

  • all people aged 65 years and over
  • people aged from 2 years to less than 65 years of age with one or more of the following medical conditions:
    • chronic respiratory disease ie as severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or bronchitis;
    • chronic heart disease, such as heart failure;
    • chronic kidney disease at stage three, four or five;
    • chronic liver disease;
    • chronic neurological disease, ie Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease or learning disability;
    • diabetes;
    • immunosuppression, a weakened immune system due to disease (ie HIV/AIDS) or treatment (ie cancer treatment);
    • asplenia or splenic dysfunction;
    • morbid obesity
  • pregnant women aged 18 or over (including those women who become pregnant during the flu season);
  • people aged 18 or over living in long-stay residential care homes or other long-stay care facilities;
  • social care workers;
  • hospice workers;
  • carers aged 18 or over;
  • household contacts of immunocompromised individuals who are aged 18 or over
  • children aged 2 and 3
  • children in reception class and school years 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (The vaccine will be administered in school)
